On Thursday 13th we had the opportunity to learn about Europe's roots by reading works by famous authors such as Dante Alighieri and Karl Marx, and we also listened to a very interesting enlightenment of each of them.
I think it was an important lesson because we learnt about the solid basis on which Europe was built and on which it's growing nowadays.
I enjoyed many parts of the whole lesson but only a few really fascinated me; for example, the question “Harmony or conflict, love or death?” and all about modern conscience that was answered by Sigmund Freud who explains that every person, in their private and public life, is always trying to take care of the instinctive desire of love and death drives.
I honestly got lost in his thoughts about these subjects because I believe in most of them: in my opinion, everything arises from the contrast of love and war, balance and fights, acceptance and violence.
Every word of the founding fathers that we talked about, their ideas and their concepts of union are treasures we don't have to hide or ignore, instead we can use them to fully understand what EU really consists of, either we agree with them or not.
